Solo Batik Carnival
It’s a carnival that presents models wearing attractive costumes made of batik, a traditionally-patterned cloth using colors that represent the three major Hindu gods (white, dark brown and indigo). The color and pattern of batik can tell a lot about a person’s royal lineage.
The purpose of this event is to preserve batik and to attract tourists from different countries. Because a lot would flock to the venue to watch this, a separate set of attendees are tasked to barricade the area of the main attraction because the spectators might damage the parade by stampeding towards the models to have their pictures taken with them.
Held annually in June, The Solo Batik Carnival is held in Surakarta (commonly known as Solo), a city in Central Java, Indonesia.
