Johor Bahru Chingay Celebration
Johor Bahru Chingay is commonly known as “Chinese New Year celebration part 2”, because it dated for 20-23rd in first month of Chinese lunar calendar.
There are a folk saying on Johor Bahru people that “Chinese New Year never come to end if no celebrate Johor Bahru Chingay”, therefore how the special and localize festival like this close ties with Chinese in Johor Bahru, especially links with Johor Bahru Old Chinese temple.
Johor Bahru Old Chinese Temple is one of the oldest Chinese temple in Johor bahru with having more hundred years in history, temple symbolise close ties with main five Chinese dialect groups in the 19th century until now, there are “Teochew”, “Hokkien”, “Cantonese”, “Hakka” and “Hainan”.
Above of five Chinese dialect groups have own individual god statue in their own place to show their independently.
Johor Bahru Old Chinese Temple organizes Johor Bahru Chingay Celebration with five Chinese dialect groups also called as Parade of Deities, to kick off a serial of excited parade along with amount of decorated bandwagons and thousands of dancers and performers show their culture performances which represent of different Chinese associations, to march around the main roads in Johor Bahru from evening until night.
Johor Bahru Chingay Celebration attracts more than hundreds of thousands people including overseas tourists to participate it and international media also come to cover this annual special carnival.
