Krakatau Festival
In memory of the Krakatau volcanic eruption in 1883, Indonesians set aside a week of activity-filled festival. Participants and visitors may witness and experience cultural presentations like parades, dances and even culinary exhibitions.
The best part of this event is the site visit to Mount Krakatau from which one could see the small islands brought about by its catastrophic eruption 130 years ago. The area now holds land and marine reserves which contribute to its weight among geologists, biologists and volcanologists.
The once mighty volcano is still active at present but has been dormant for more than a century. The Krakatau Festival is celebrated between the first and second weeks of October.
